Meta’s new terms may allow it to train AI on news sites for free

Meta is updating its terms of service to allow the company to scrape and crawl external websites associated with its platform users for AI training purposes. This move essentially forces publishers who use Meta's business tools to trade their proprietary data for the privilege of existing on Facebook and Instagram. The change goes into effect October 30th and targets the 'development and improvement' of their generative models.
