A researcher successfully trained a reinforcement learning agent to defeat Warcraft III's hardest built-in AI using only a single desktop GPU. Unlike the massive compute clusters used for AlphaStar, this project demonstrates that sophisticated multi-agent strategy can be solved via self-play on consumer hardware. The model learned to manage micro-tactics and resource gathering without human-labeled data.
